From Con Rave to Wedding Planners

It Started With a Pikachu Hat

Velencia tried online dating hoping to make friends and dip her toes back into dating. When she swiped right on a cute guy named Micheal, she wasn't expecting much, just maybe some good conversation.

Micheal, on the other hand, received a ding: a girl who loved anime and geek culture... who was sewing while wearing a Pikachu hat. "I have to get to know this girl!"

Two months of messages later, they decided to meet in person at Katsucon 2023.

The First Date That Changed Everything

What was supposed to be a quiet first meeting turned into something beautifully chaotic. Velencia was volunteering at the con and invited him to visit same day. Micheal had family plans, but he drove over anyway, just for a few hours, just to meet her.

When Micheal saw Velencia in her Yor cosplay from Spy x Family, his heart fluttered. (It still does whenever she wears it -M)

That night, they played DDR, sang karaoke, crashed a hotel party, and danced hand-in-hand at a rave until the early hours of the morning. They talked about everything and nothing. They were surrounded by hundreds of people who got it, who understood that dressing as fictional characters and staying up until 4 AM dancing to anime openings wasn't weird. It was home.
